Commission process

Call or email me and we will discuss what you are looking for in your child’s portrait including: dress (formal or informal), pose (head and shoulders, 3/4 length), where the portrait will hang (this and the pose usually determine the size of the painting). Next we will schedule a sitting/photo session where I can get some reference images. Then we will decide which photo to use as a reference for the final painting. Note* this is for a single subject painting. I prefer to create individual portraits to highlight each personality. A payment of 50% of the commission price is required at the time of the sitting with the remaining balance due upon completion.

I will create and transfer the underpainting to canvas and then add acrylic, oils and/or glazes to bring the vision to life. You will receive progress updates during this process so you can follow along. After the final approval, the finished painting will be varnished and prepped for framing. Upon request, I will work with you to select a custom frame. Framing, shipping costs and sales tax are in addition to the price of the portrait.

If you are in the Washington DC area I will deliver the portrait to you. If not, it will be shipped. Then the best part, you get to enjoy your heirloom portrait every day!
